Full Job Description

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Safety Coordinator provides leadership to improve efficiencies, accuracies, and safety/ training for the production team.  The Safety Coordinator is responsible for planning, training, implementing and overseeing company's employee safety at work. Safety Coordinator’s main duty is to ensure that the company complies and adheres to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidelines to reduce work-related injuries. This role is the liaison for all departments in regard to safety.

major responsibilities

  • Conduct and manage all process improvement and safety training drive cultural change.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of safety compliance policies and procedures; interpret, explain, and provide guidance to staff on policies and procedures.
  • Through on-going and continued education, maintain an essential understanding of California and Federal employment health & safety laws and regulations.
  • Maintain and retain all required safety compliance documentation, including (but not limited to) Safety and Health Manual, training logs, internal shared drive, training records, regulatory compliance obligations, regulatory site permits, job safety analyses, risk assessments, OSHA logs, fire drill records, and any other relevant documentation required by CAL-OSHA or company policy.
  • Perform weekly safety audits, track progress, and enforce actions/resolution as needed.
  • Inspects and provide a detailed report on working conditions to ensure all products and activities are compliant with safety guidelines.
  • Recommend new approaches, processes and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the department and services performed.
  • Conduct internal Environmental, Health and Safety audits/inspection, accident and near miss investigations, suggests corrective actions and monitors, and tracks completion of corrective action items.
  • Create, train and track all manufacturing training, including new hires and new procedures and ensure all required annual training is completed by all manufacturing employees as required by OSHA and company policy.
  • Actively participant on Nutiva’s Safety Committee by creating meeting agenda’s, taking minutes, coordinate walk-throughs, leading the Root Cause analysis subcommittee and managing all administrative functions.
  • Work alongside HR with regarding and workers compensation issues.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Position-Specific Skills (Top Must Haves)

  • Demonstrates broad knowledge of federal and state safety guidelines in a work place and has knowledge of legal repercussions of workplace accidents.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations in manufacturing.
  • Aptitude and acumen for researching and monitoring new/current safety compliance laws and trends to continuously improve systems and processes.
  • Proven success in identifying and executing process improvements and training to drive cultural change.
  • Ability to create and document processes and procedures pertaining to Safety.
  • Keen eye for process and safety improvement.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with all employees.

Leadership Skills

  • Team-focused, enjoys working as part of an active group of highly engaged individuals, sharing information readily with co-workers, and listening to and respecting others
  • Ability to inspire and motivate self and others.
  • Innate leadership, influence management, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office platforms and ERP 
  • Proficient in Alchemy Systems Safety Training software a plus

Education/Training

  • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety
  • OSHA Certification
  • At least 2+ years’ experience in a manufacturing/distribution environment.
