Full Job Description

Reporting to the EVP of Global Sales, the National Sales Manager is accountable for developing and managing business across the U.S. market.  This position will initiate an action plan to manage, recruit and develop best in class sales professionals and national broker teams, manage and grow existing customers, develop new business, grow revenue and profits. The National Sales Manager will evaluate market trends and strategies to ensure that our Nutiva brand stays on track and relevant to our customer partners, establish specific sales and merchandising objectives, and develop ongoing tracking and assessment of all business and brand activities.  The National Sales manager will drive enhanced brand results through collaboration with Marketing, Accounting, Operations &Planning, the Sales Team, the EVP & Leadership team.

major responsibilities

  • Manage and develop the US business sales initiatives in FDM&Natural, Ecommerce, Military.
  • Manage US sales team; regional sales managers, market managers, inside sales support. Develop annual Key Performance Objectives and monitor performance throughout the year.
  • Recruiting like-minded, passionate mission driven, professionals.
  • Coach and train sales staff in all aspects of their positions including new business development, relationship building with clients, and strengthening sales strategy and targeted and strategic account growth.
  • Assist Sales Team with closing contracts, client issue resolutions, and contract negotiations.
  • Identify and target new sales opportunities within U.S. channels of responsibility.
  • Manage sales brokers to achieve sales goals and customer volume objectives.
  • Execute sales strategy and ensure strategic alignment with the company’s strategic goals and objectives.
  • Develop sales proposals and brand presentations in collaboration with Marketing, lead complex sales negotiations, set up key customer sales presentations and close sales deals.
  • Analyze sales statistics on customers’ business to determine business growth potential; utilize Spins and Portal Data from key accounts effectively.
  • Partner with Operations and Planning teams to monitor quality control of all sales output pertaining to customer acquisition and service delivery.
  • Responsible for US market sales budget by customer by item forecasting, and subsequent production forecasting.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to develop effective Point of Sale, trade collateral materials, trade show booths, syndicated data analysis, shopper marketing programs.
  • Develop sales and expense forecasts for yearly Budget and Strategic Plan for the classes of trade managed by the Regional Sales Managers; monitor performance monthly against budget targets and make appropriate adjustments to achieve company profit targets.
  • Manage trade promotion programs; coordinate verification and management of Manufacturer Chargebacks, enlisting sales team to provide on-going review by customer.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as assigned

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, be flexible, and make quick judgment calls.
  • Residence near major airport (i.e. San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Denver).
  • Road warrior – willingness to travel at least 50% including to company headquarters every 4-6 weeks.

Technical Skills

  • Proficient PC and systems skills. Superior Excel and PowerPoint user.
  • Able to review/understand market and customer analytics including SPINS data.
  • Strong reporting skills that include bi-weekly reporting, quarterly business reviews,and semi-annual SWOT analysis.

Education/Training

  • 7 - 10 years progressive sales experience including past supervisory experience, preferably in natural/organic CPG industry.
  • BS/BA in Business or related field or its equivalent in experience.
  • Nutrition background helpful.
