Full Job Description

Miyoko’s is looking for an Assistant Controller to lead all aspects of inventory, specifically costing and accounting, and provide technical expertise in these areas.  
This role will also provide technological improvements across the department related to accounting processes, specifically NetSuite ERP optimization.  Additionally, assistance with accounting guidance, reporting, and process and internal control improvement is expected.
Your responsibilities will include working closely with the Controller and the Accounting team, as well as Product Commercialization, Purchasing and Manufacturing teams, including Co-manufacturing, in a quickly expanding environment.  You will partner with key team members regularly to keep inventory costs flowing accurately and improve the overall processes related to inventory costing.  This position will also work with the Sales Operations and Accounts Receivable teams to ensure item releases (sales and donations) are properly recorded.
This position has tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting responsibilities including ongoing inventory item and system cost updates, monthly inventory counts and analysis, month end close, and year-end audit.
The Assistant Controller – Inventory will report to the Controller and will have direct contact with key personnel at all staff levels.

Responsibilities

  • Owns inventory cost accounting function and line of business margin analysis.  Includes on-site manufacturing as well as co-manufacturers. 
  • Oversees management of accounting functions including but not limited to inventory, accounts receivable, manufacturer chargebacks, and purchasing.
  • Provides comprehensive financial updates to management regarding inventory and costing by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting appropriate data points.
  • Enhances the department’s overall technological experience as related to recording transactions and process flow, specifically in NetSuite ERP software.
  • Assists with development, implementation, and enforcement of accounting systems, policies, and procedures, and internal controls to maximize protection of company assets and increase efficiencies.
  • Reviews and approves journal entries.
  • Assists with accurate and timely month end close.
  • Assists with coordination of annual independent audit.
  • Assists in preparation of reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Assists with special projects as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field.
  • CPA required.
  • 4-7 years of progressive cost accounting and analysis experience as a senior-level accountant, preferably with management experience.  A strong emphasis is placed on knowledge of management accounting, cost and inventory accounting.
  • Expertise with cost accounting required.
  • Consumer packaged goods industry experience required.
  • Experience with NetSuite highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with internal controls and audit background preferred.
  • Ease and comfort with technology and its use to enhance processes; technologically literate.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, skills.
  • Ability to manage projects, work independently and with team members, and communicate effectively to all areas and levels of the organization.
  • Strong attention to detail required.
