JOB DESCRIPTION: The Sr. Controller/Cost accountant holds one of the top financial position in the organization and will be a close and trusted business partner to the CFO and manufacturing team.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Controller functions as a business partner with company and financial management to effectively provide financial guidance, support, and leadership to manage the business. Leads the financial staff and is responsible for business analysis, general accounting, payables, order entry, billing, cost accounting, bill of materials, financial reporting, and business planning.
  • Prepare and manage month-end activities, variance analysis, and monthly reconciliations.
  • Leads the company’s financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
  • Participate to improve productivity and prepare analysis to support new capital equipment with a complete understanding of IRR, payback, and NPV of investments
  • Ensures there are effective and efficient system of internal controls including; data integrity, asset protection, segregation of duties, budgeting, financial reporting, information systems and adherence to corporate policies and governmental regulations (GAAP, SOX, compliance, etc.)
  • Develop and standardize daily, weekly, and monthly plan performance reporting, including KPI's and reporting in support of continuous improvement efforts as well as educate company personnel on these key indicators.
  • Analyze and accurately report current month's financial results to the company, leadership team, and corporate management in accordance with corporate format and time requirements.
  • Enter production orders into the system for the purpose of accurate inventory accounting- Raw Materials, WIP and Finished Goods.
  • Ensure accuracy of the physical inventory and reported results. Investigate and explain book to physical adjustments.
  • Analyze changes on product configuration, raw materials, manufacturing methods and services provided, to determine the effects on product costs and internal product margins.
  • Responsible for the accuracy of the standard costs. This starts with the bill of materials and item cost, labor routings, labor rates, as well as overhead assignments.
  • Act as point of contact to outside CPA firm and manage all CPA audits.
  • Coordinate with tax accountant to ensure timely tax return completions.
  • Provide in-depth analysis on variances to plan, forecast, and prior year.
  • Participate in ERP implementation as needed.
  • Developed and maintain standard cost for all SKUs.
  • Ensure Bill of Materials and labor routings are accurate.
  • Analyze product cost variances.
  • Manage monthly inventory valuations and weekly cycle counts audits.
  • Perform month end close and reconciliations.

Accounts Payable Management

  • Lead, organize, manage, coordinate and administer activities and functions of the Accounts Payable Department in a consistent and timely manner.
  • Approve and oversee the issuance of vendor credits.
  • Coordinate with Shipping/Receiving Department on all vendor invoices.
  • Prepare invoices to customers and report weekly on invoices issued.
  • Coordinate with AR manager to better manage cash inflow and outflow.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • 10+ years of financial management leadership in food manufacturing and CPG.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Have exceptional reasoning and problem solving skills, utilizing objective and subjective information.
  • Have experience and working knowledge with third party CPA audits specifically for banking institutions.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting practices.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to use PC programs including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, QuickBooks or other ERP systems.
  • Strong analytical ability
  • Be able to use scientific knowledge and techniques to identify and assess risk and apply appropriate methodologies resolve issues and help the business reach its objectives.
  • Possess strong communication and presentation skills at all levels of the organization and ability to break down highly technical discussion into understandable concepts for non-technical colleagues.
  • Possess strong leadership skills marked by organizing work, setting clear goals, delegating appropriately and driving accountability.
  • Build strong relationships at all levels; build effective teams and champion integrity and trust.
  • Previous experience collaborating with Marketing & Sales preferred
  • Experience with heavy Excel and data manipulation/analysis required.
  • Exceptional senior executive presence and strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be a “hands-on” / “roll-up up your sleeves” individual and comfortable in a lean organization and lean department required; Excellent team player and be open to working in a fluid, fast paced environment with the ability to be flexible.
  • Comfort in a private equity backed company environment, reporting requirements, communication requirements, and other periodic ad hoc requests
  • Skilled at strategic prioritization of objectives and tasks to ensure the company focuses on those with the best long-term return; uses data-driven evidence to communicate and educate stakeholders about the financial implications of business decisions
  • Prefer experience in implementing and working with NetSuite as the company is planning to transition from QuickBooks Enterprises

Reasoning Requirements: ability to think and work effectively under pressure; ability to work effectively with executive team; decision making, maintain a concentrated level of attention to information communicated in person and by email and telephone throughout a typical workday; attention to detail. (R)

 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

General office, food manufacturing plant, and warehouse conditions. May be exposed to moderate noise levels.
